A nonprofit hired CDF to assist the organization with a pending unemployment claim filed by an independent contractor, which had prompted the EDD to make inquiries regarding auditing the organization's other independent contractor arrangements. We advised the client regarding the pending claim, conducted our own audit and analysis of the positions at risk, and recommended reclassifying certain positions. Based on our advice and recommendations, the client was able to avoid a full-blown EDD audit of all of its contractual independent contractor arrangements and prevented other independent contractors from filing claims for misclassification and/or unemployment benefits against the organization.
