A terminated payroll and benefits coordinator sued a health system that owns and operates hospitals throughout the United States for wrongful termination and retaliatory discharge in violation of public policy. The plaintiff claimed that her support for a co-worker, who had a pending sexual harassment lawsuit against the hospital, resulted in a campaign of retaliation against her, culminating in her discharge. The plaintiff called an array of experts at trial to testify on everything from the hospital’s allegedly inadequate sexual harassment policies, to its conduct towards the plaintiff, to the plaintiff’s severe emotional distress. At the end of the 12-day jury trial, a unanimous defense verdict was secured.
