CDF attorney Karimah Lamar authors article for the California Employment Law Letter entitled "AutoZone Ordered To Pay $185 Million For Pregnancy Discrimination," in December 2014.
The article reviews the ABC 10 News report in San Diego that aired 10 days before Thanksgiving that reported a jury in federal court awarded Rosario Juarez $185 million in punitive damages for pregnancy and gender discrimination against AutoZone. She was also awarded $900,000 in compensatory damages. (Compensatory damages are actual damages suffered by an individual, such as medical bills, lost wages, and emotional distress.) It was also reported that the $185 million in punitive damages was $25 million more than was Juarez was asking for.
