About Candace

Candace DesBaillets works with employers to implement practical solutions and mitigate risk.  She advises employers on a broad range of issues including wage and hour compliance, employee termination risk assessment, family and medical leave, and disability accommodation.  She defends employers in individual and multi-plaintiff litigation matters including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, contracts, employment-related torts, and wage and hour claims.  DesBaillets has defended and advised employers of all sizes across numerous industries including technology, retail, food and beverage, construction, healthcare, and aerospace.  She has represented employers in state and federal trial and appellate courts, as well as before agencies including the EEOC, DFEH, and DLSE.

Prior to joining CDF, DesBaillets served as a judicial extern to Administrative Law Judge Steven Berlin of the US Department of Labor.  While in law school, DesBaillets served as Managing Editor for the Berkeley Journal of Gender, Law, and Justice and worked as a researcher for the Center on Reproductive Rights and Justice.  DesBaillets regularly pulls from her background in critical gender studies in her advice and counsel for employers to help them mitigate risk in the ever-evolving California legal climate.
