Sacramento, Calif. – March 14, 2022. CDF Labor Law LLP (“CDF”), a California-based labor and employment defense law firm, proudly announces that Sacramento Office Managing Partner Mark S. Spring was recently elected as Co-Chair of the Sacramento County Bar Association’s (“SCBA”) Diversity Hiring and Retention Committee. Spring has been an active member of the SCBA Diversity Hiring and Retention Committee for almost 20 years. In his new leadership role, he will continue his long-time commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the Sacramento legal community.
Spring will work with Committee Co-Chair Sophia Kwan of Seyfarth Shaw LLP and other Committee members to foster the primary goal of the Committee to promote and increase the diversity of attorneys in Sacramento area law firms. The Committee promotes this goal primarily through its Summery Diversity Fellowship Program (“Program”). Established in 1990, this Program offers summer fellowships to diverse and underrepresented first-year law students from UC Davis King Hall and McGeorge Law School within local area law firms.
The Program matches participating law firms and law students for a paid 10-week internship that includes weekly educational seminars, learning opportunities, meet and greets with judges and law firm leaders for all the fellows. This Program also focuses on promoting networking amongst summer fellows, so when they graduate and become leaders in the legal community, they have the beginning of a diverse network for legal referrals and career development. A significant number of participants have gone on to excel in leadership positions in the Sacramento legal community. In fact, CDF has employed several attorneys that previously participated in the Program as law students, including former Sacramento Partner Vanessa Whang (now litigating for the Department of Justice) and current Sacramento attorney Dalia Khatib.
“I’m honored to be elected as Co-Chair of the SCBA’s Diversity Fellowship Program and look forward to building off the incredible progress this Program has achieved in advancing opportunities for law students and lawyers of all races, ethnicities, religions, gender, and sexual orientation,” said Spring. He adds “Diversity is essential to progress, and I can’t think of a better way to spend my time than working with Sophia to help lead this Committee to ensure it achieves its goals and objectives.”
