Orange County, March 28, 2024 - CDF Labor Law LLP was recently honored to receive the "Community Organization of the Year" award from the Thurgood Marshall Bar Association (“TMBA”). Marie DiSante, CDF’s Firm Managing Partner, accepted this award on behalf of the firm during TMBA’s recent 6th Annual Award & Installation Gala, the theme for which was “Black Excellence.” This recognition underscores CDF's unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and its support for the educational, professional, and community interests of Black attorneys in the Orange County legal community.
“We are honored and humbled by this recognition,” said Marie DiSante, Firm Managing Partner. “We commend TMBA’s commitment to supporting Black students and attorneys in the Orange County legal community; and we are pleased to support its important work.”
CDF has been a long-time supporter of TMBA. CDF Partner, Denisha McKenzie, is a past TMBA President, and former CDF attorney, Rebekah Thomas, was also a Past President in 2021. CDF has sponsored scholarships for Black law students through TMBA, and will continue its support for TMBA’s programs and outreach efforts as part of CDF's long-standing commitment to empowering students and attorneys from under-represented communities.
“The firm’s support of TMBA’s mission underscores CDF’s intentional approach to supporting the needs and viewpoints of Black lawyers and law students in Southern California,” stated Denisha McKenzie, CDF Partner and past President of TMBA.
Denisha was the first and only Black student in the inaugural class at UCI Law, and was President of TMBA in 2018. In her true trailblazer fashion, she began the now annual Awards and Installation Gala, created an organizational structure for TMBA, and transitioned the organization to being focused primarily on the advancement of Black law students and lawyers. Denisha continues to further TMBA’s mission to support, connect, and increase the Black members of the legal community in Orange County.
