Carothers DiSante & Freudenberger LLP Celebrated as Top Law Firm for Female and Minority Attorneys

Award-winning California labor, employment and immigration law firm recognized nationally as top 10 in both categories by Law360

IRVINE, Calif. – July 9, 2019 – Celebrating its 25th anniversary, acclaimed California labor, employment and immigration defense firm Carothers DiSante & Freudenberger LLP (CDF) is proud to share that for the second consecutive year, it has been named one of the “Best Law Firms for Female and Minority Attorneys” in Law360’s 2019 Glass Ceiling Report for firms with 20-49 attorneys. The firm has made notable efforts to advance diversity in its ranks over the past year, rising five places to fifth for its representation of female attorneys, and rising three places to fourth for its representation of minority attorneys.

Law360 research indicates that women in the industry represent only 36.3 percent of attorneys at firms and only 24.8 percent of partners. CDF greatly values diversity and gender-equality with women and minority attorneys playing an integral role in managing and shaping the future of the firm. Today, female and minority attorneys make up over 48 percent of partners.  In addition, 52 percent of total firm wide attorneys are female, and 28 percent are minorities – culminating in CDF’s total attorney headcount at 60 percent females or minorities.

“We’re so proud to receive national recognition from Law360’s 2019 Glass Ceiling Report for making strides in bridging the gap and creating a diverse work environment, reflective of the employers we represent,” said Marie DiSante, Founding and Firm Managing Partner. “It’s a strong testament of our commitment to diversity and inclusion as an ongoing priority for our firm, our communities and the legal industry as a whole.”

The firm has focused on the recruitment, development and retention of the best and brightest from all walks of life and backgrounds to support growth and serve the needs of its diverse clients. In addition to the tremendous efforts of the firm's Diversity and Inclusion Committee, co-chaired by Dave Carothers and Alison Tsao, CDF is actively involved in several diversity-focused organizations, including Women Presidents’ Organization, California Minority Counsel Program, African American Managing Partners Network, Asian American Bar Association, Filipino-American Lawyers of Orange County, Lavender Bar Association and the Thurgood Marshall Bar Association. CDF also participates in diversity-related programs such as the San Diego County Bar Association’s Diversity Fellowship Program, Sacramento County Bar Association Diversity Hiring and Retention Committee and the Sacramento No Glass Ceiling Task Force.

“This well-deserved recognition as one of the Best Firms for Women and Minority Attorneys underscores the firm’s commitment to support, mentor and develop women and minority attorneys – truly a top-down approach that reflects one of the core values of the firm,” said CDF attorney and former President of the Thurgood Marshall Bar Association of Orange County, Denisha P. McKenzie. “I’m proud to be a part of a group of talented attorneys who practice at the highest levels of the profession and work hard to promote greater diversity and inclusion in the practice of law.”

For the annual Glass Ceiling Report, Law360 surveyed more than 300 national firms about their demographics as of Dec. 31, 2018, considering the relative gender diversity of the firm’s attorney workforce.  In order to make these prestigious lists, Law360 grouped firms based on U.S. attorney headcount and ranked them by the percentage of female and minority non-partners and partners. The top ranked firms in every tier were then ranked using a formula that equally weights the percentage of non-partners and percentage of total non-partners who are minorities and women.
